Map of Cherokee lands, 1770 Dec. 8 and 1993 Nov. 23.

Plat certified by Patrick B. Calhoun as South Carolina Deputy Surveyor, 8 Dec. 1770, for Indian lands, most of which lay in what is now known as Greenville County, S.C., which the Cherokee Nation proposed to convey to King George III of England. Transcription with notes by E.D. Sloan, Jr., 23 Nov. 1993, "Map of Lands Near the Salud [sic] River Showing Reservations Made for Cherokee Half Breeds: With Surveyors Certificate." A scheme to cede the Cherokee lands was devised by Edward Wilkinson, Richard Pearis, and Alexander Cameron, each of whom would benefit from acquiring control of the property. John Stuart, Superintendent for Indian Affairs in the Southern District of America, prevented the title being conveyed.
